Support Wanda Carson: the People’s Candidate

The Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations is proud to announce our endorsement of Sister Wanda Carson’s electoral campaign for Alderperson in Ward #3 in Madison, Illinois.   Carson was an attendee at the Coalition’s second Electoral Campaign School on April 7 & 8, 2018 in St. Louis, Missouri, where she first learned about the National Black Political Agenda for Self-Determination--the 19-Point Platform developed by the Coalition in November of 2016.   Carson was inspired to run for office on a platform that speaks to the interests of the black community and has since adopted the 19-Point Platform as her own electoral platform.   Sister Wanda completed an endorsement application, which was received on February 28, 2019…

The Struggle for Reparations –We Are In A Global Fight.

With the issue of reparations entering the mainstream discourse for the upcoming presidential elections in 2020, it is important to hear from those who have been in the trenches and at the forefront of the struggle for reparations.   Brothers and Sisters have been mobilizing around this issue for decades, and a body of work and research has been initiated on a global scale.    We must not allow political party hacks to hijack this movement, or the discussion around  reparations in any way.   And while hashtags can be useful in blazing ideas  across social media, they are not a substitute for a movement and the struggle for reparations cannot be reduced to a meme or a hashtag.    Although we must fight…
