The Black Is Black Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations stands 100% in solidarity with our brothers Captain Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso, President General Abdourahamane Tchiani of Niger, President Assimi Goita of Mali, and all African people throughout the globe seeking to overturn this ruthless system of western colonialism that began with the Portuguese infestation of Africa over 600 years ago. It was this Portuguese assault on Africa that was the initiation of a world economy for the first time in human history.
This became the world economy that created Europe and what is now known as the Americas. Prior to that assault, there was no world economy, no Europe and no Americas. The oppression and enslavement of African people became the unifying economic and political foundation upon which this parasitic colonial system , a/k/a capitalism, was built. It is a parasitic system that undergirds white power domination and that came into existence off of the enslavement, blood and resources of African people. It is a generally unrecognized mode of production.
This 600-plus year colonial assault on Africa created a single worldwide parasitic economy based on a colonial mode of production. The mode of production refers to the socio-economic and political systems of a society that are used to maintain life. And the world as we know it today operates under a ruthless white power system built on the enslavement of African people, the genocide of Indigenous people, and the extraction of their resources. As Africa is the richest continent on the planet and gave birth to humanity, the west, led by the United States, needs Africa to remain in a state of permanent subjugation to maintain its world dominance. And it is this system of existence that Captain Traoré and the AES are rising up against.
The Black Is Back Coalition is also calling for the immediate abolishment of AFRICOM and condemns Michael Langley, the U.S. domestic neocolonialist commander of AFRICOM, and his thinly veiled call for US military interference in Burkina Faso before the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee on April 3, 2025. At the meeting Langley made a baseless accusation that Captain Traoré was using his country’s gold reserves for the Burkinabe military and not for the people. He then asserted that “In order to protect our homeland and United States interests, we must deter these nations and their malign actors from their goals on the African continent.” AFRICOM is clearly nothing more than an instrument of US Imperialism and represents the U.S. military occupation of the Continent, designed to destabilize the Continent and control Africa’s vast resources at the barrel of a gun and bombs.
In the entire history of the U.S. and western civilization, colonialist powers have never provided assistance to African people whether on the continent or anywhere in the world. They have instead overseen a brutal reign of terror resulting in untold millions of deaths, military overthrows of popular presidents, and the assassination of many strong African leaders, such as Patrice Lumumba, Thomas Sankara, Muammar Gaddafi, and numerous others. This has resulted in the extraction of much of Africa’s vast resources under the barrel of a gun. In fact, “democracy” is the U.S. code word for blood bath, as every place where it claims to be concerned about the welfare of a people, it leaves a trail of bloodletting carnage.
The evidence of Captain Traoré’s initiatives taken thus far for African sovereignty are tremendous. Outlined below is a sampling:
- He banned French military operations in Burkina Faso.
- He banned French media.
- He expelled French troops from the region.
- He outlawed the export of gold dust, and has taken steps to nationalize and control the country’s gold mining industry which was previously controlled by foreign “investments.” This has increased the value of gold for the country by 7 times. It plans to use profits from gold to finance infrastructure, health, and education projects, none of which was done by direct French colonialism nor by indirect neocolonial rule.
- He Invested heavily in agriculture by giving over 1000 tractors and other equipment to local farmers It is part of his initiative for food self sufficiency.
- He created tomato processing plants, increasing tomato production to a capacity to process six tons of fresh tomatoes per hour. This plant is expected to create over 187 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs.
- He Is building an airport (Ouagodougou -Donsin Airport)
- He implemented prison reform projects in which three months taking off the sentences of inmates for every one month they work on decolonizing agriculture projects.
- He created electric cars under his leadership.
Langley’s baseless claims that Burkina Faso is taking away resources from their people to support its military speaks to the utter depravity of the U.S. agenda, as entire segments of the U.S. population fall into economic despair while the US spends more on its military than any other country in the world. Homelessness and food insecurity continue to rise, while millions cannot afford healthcare. And the sector of the US population that continues to carry the brunt of these statistics is the Black community, as we experience the worst of all socio-economic indicators in the U.S.
Today the United States stands unmasked in ways that it had never been before as the US empire is crumbling before the world, as it stands at the center of every conflict in the world, and is directly responsible for the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Colonized people all around the world are rising up against US imperialism and its western cronies. This is what happened in the Sahel, and enabled Captain Traoré to emerge as a mighty leader in response to the demands of the people.
We in the Black Is Back Coalition understand that the people are the real makers of history and revolution isn’t made by good leaders alone. The world wide energy that African people are generating by the spirit of liberation overtaking the Sahel must be organized. The collective masses of African working people must be armed with the organization, knowledge and ability to not only create the world we want to bring into existence, but to defend it as well. We must destroy the colonial mode of production and replace it with an African working class one, one that respects the right of self determination for all people.
The Black Is Back Coalition is a coalition of over 130 individuals and organizations dedicated to African Liberation globally. Our Chairman and co founder, Omali Yeshitela, the leader of the Uhuru Movement and the African People’s Socialist Party, has been actively on the front lines for over 60 years and has launched many strategic, successful campaigns against colonialism. His most recent victory involved the fight back against the U.S. government who sought to imprison him for 15 years for organizing and speaking out against U.S. colonialism and imperialist wars. This important case became known as The Uhuru 3.
He is one of the foremost strategists for African Liberation of our time, and recognizes the importance of the masses of working class people being organized around sound liberation principles. And that is why we are putting out a clarion call to all African people throughout the diaspora to join the Black Is Back Coalition. We must give a resounding message that we support Ibrahim Traoré, the AES, and all African people seeking independence from western, colonialist domination, that there will be consequences for any attempts to overthrow Captain Ibrahim Traoré or to destabilize our liberation in any way. And the strongest way that we can do that is by becoming involved in organizations such as the Black Is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace, and Reparations.
